mixing ram?

Would it be bad if I use two different brands of ram? (assume that they have the EXACT same specs, including speed, voltage, latency etc). And disregard any overclocking issues.

For stock application you generally shouldn't see real problems unless the make and more likely particular model is fussy on which brand is used. The old Socket A Asus model used here took on Corsair xms series memory and Kingston ValueRam as well. The next 939 Asus board saw pleasantry all over with the same two sets being tried there!

OCing is another issue all together where getting more of the same memory from the same manufacturer's batch is the ideal situation. The old Corsair DDR400 memory was specifically ordered as a matched pair of 512s there as opposed to the typical 1gb or 2gb kit you see often enough.

Well right now I'm mixing ram and I haven't had problems. But for my next build I can get two sets of different rams with MIR much cheaper than two sets of the same ram (w/ only one MIR). But then again I may get too lazy to write all the MIR and just get two sets of the same ram.

When planning a new build the idea is to match things up to see the best possible results. If you look up some good professional reviews and articles on how to choose memory you will find that even buying memory from the same batch as well as brand and type is the ideal solution. Dimms from the same batch will run smoother together. This is still kind of the old school thought there however.
