MOBO fried?

I overheated my CPU, and it went dead. (Need to clean the heatsink more often).
Anyway, the computer will only boot through the post, check the ram, and then shut down. Any ideas?

MOBO: AOpen AK-73
CPU: AMD Athlon Thunderbird 800 MHz; replaced with 1GHz
RAM: 512 MB

The replacement CPU is doing the same thing. Either the MOBO is fried or I bought a bum chip. The chip is a pull purchased from Memorytek,Inc., and they claim they test all their components.

I have pulled everything off the mobo, reset the cmos, and tried to boot with only 1 stick of ram, and the video card installed. Still the same.

i think your socket is busted. Did you overclocked your cpu? if so.. something with the southbridge chipset is not ok. Either cases i beleave the mobo is gone.

Have you tried to reset the bios? Either with the jumper, removingthe battery, or using default settings if you can access the bios. I do also think it's the motherboard. Could be other problems though. If it overheated in general, capacitors can begin to go bad causing computers to malfunction. I know some older Dell's were very bad about that.
