i have an asus mobo. The big metal thing that sticks out on most mobos. It gets really hot and when i hook up my temp sensors onto it, the sensor on the tower beeps cuz its too hot and im kinda curious on why it gets so hot.

That's the heat sink for the main chipset on the board. The threshold setting in the system bios is probably set too low. That can be raised or disabled by going into the bios setup and locating it in the user manual for that model. Heat sinks draw heat off of components to prevent damage from overheating.

Not all heat sinks have fans on them if this is on a custom build. There are a few without them. If the temp is climbing on a stock setup either the temp threshold is too low or the temps have climbed too high.
