having issues booting pc. starts to boot, then when trying to find IDE device or SATA device, pc will go into sleep mode or 'glitchy'. am i right in asuming this is a problem with the mainboard itself. have tried another HDD in polace of the current one but get the same issue. the mobo is only a few months old.

Try clearing the CMOS, usually there is a jumper on the mainboard to clear the CMOS, some even have a button. Just look in the motherboard manual where the jumper is located and set it so that it clears the CMOS and then back to what it was.

i had an issue similar to this i found out what my problem was im not sure if its gonna be the same for you but....i had 2 harddrives connected my slave drive was struck by lightning and i didn't know this but it was stopping my bios from recognizing any of my IDE drives..unplugged the faulty drive and all was well if you have 2 drives i would try unplugging the secondary and see if that does anything
