Mobo Not Recognizing CPU?? WTF!?

for some reason, my motherboard is not recognizing my processor? it is supposed to be an athlon xp-m 2600+. and right now it is only clocked at 800Mhz. it sucks because i can tell it while gaming and it sux:mad: can anyone tell me what to do to fix this? do i need to flash my bios or what?

You might need to flash... Have you looked in your bios to see if you could adjust the speed manually? What mobo do you have, too? Not the laptop you have listed, is it?

ok, if i need to flash, i will need help.

i looked in the bios and i could raise the fsb, however i still couldnt get the total speed to much over 1000Mhz, and even then it was unstable. if im not mistaken, this is a 1.99Ghz stock processor. everytime i raised the fsb to 200, my temps were good, but i had to clear cmos so it would boot up.

my mobo: Epox EP-8KMM+

this is not my lappy. i just built a system and its pissing me off.:mad: im thinking it might be the mobo, because i had to install audio drivers cuz i didnt have any audio the first time i booted. is that normal?
 
Flashing is quite easy, but also quite easy to mess up. Just look around Epox's site and try to find the bios files for your model. Some companies make it very easy to update. Abit, for example, has a nice program that you simply click one button and it does everything(downloading and flashing) for you! I dont know how Epox will be.

Best thing to do, though, is to get it into safe mode when you flash so nothing will interuprt it.

ok, how do i flash?? i downloaded the .bin file from the website and now what do i do? just run it?
 
I love how everybodys first thought is to flash bios, I assure you it is his setting in bios, If you have never flashed bios before read, read until you are totally comfortable performing the flash. If you had a power failure during it there goes your bios.

Flashing the BIOS often helps these sort of problems, but there's something important to check first in this case. On your board there's a jumper labelled JCLK, which MUST be set correctly (Setting 2-3, I think). Consult your mobo manual for more info. It can be downloaded from the epox website.

I had the same problem with my old Epox 8K3A+, it's this jumper setting that will prevent your processor being detected. If that's not it, a BIOS update may help, but really shouldn't be necessary, as Epox claims to support that processor.
 
Its so much easier flashing the BIOS on an ASUS board. Just download the BIOS file from ASUS, go into the ASUS update tool, then update. Far easier! :D

Almost all mobo makes have a "winflash" tool of sorts :)
