Mobo Question

So I just purchased 4 gigs of DDR 400 Ram. And now I come to find out that XP shouldn't have that much, or won't run to potential.

Two options:

Buy a new mobo, new processor (duo core), and use ddr....

or

Send back the ram, by a new mobo, new processor (duo core) and get ddr2.

So the question:
Is the first option possible? Less work on my side and I really need to get this stuff in the next week in a half.

Thanks

Hi, no option one isn't really an option. As far as I know you can longer get any boards that will support a core duo CPU and take ddr 400 memory. So pretty much option looks to be the go. That said, is your problem with the 4GB that XP doesn't like it or your current motherboard? Because if you download XP service pack 3 then it will recognize the full 4GB that you have in your system.

Welcome to the forums btw ;)

Hope this helps,

Ya Seth thats going to help me. It at least makes me more confident in putting in all the RAM.

I'm planning on upgrading to a new system/vista at the new year. Any suggestions of which route to go for processor, mobo, and video card?

Thanks

upgrading to sp3 isn't going to help. It helps xp "see" all the ram in stead of utilizing it.
xp 32bit can't use over 3.5gb (can be more or less depends on your video card memory).
There is 1 way of fixing this using software. Change to a 64bit operating system (vista x64 or xp 64). Windows xp 64 bit is a driver hell though. And there are alot of people that are allergic to vista these days....
