MOBO question

You want to buy a 230.00 motherboard and then put it in a 35.00 case? Thats makes no sense...

Anyways, they are good motherboards. Core 2 Duo is the way to go however....

i am very new at this if you havent noticed. haha. how should i distribute the budget better? like a more sturdy case?

I've put more expensive motherboards in cheaper cases. Cases are for vanity and rarely for cooling as most offer the basic cooling needed for any machine. Why spend 200$ on a motherboard and then another 200$ on a case when you could spend that money on a PSU or better RAM/CPU?

As for the motherboards it's your choice, will you need a ton of features, or just enough to get you to your next upgrade? Will you ever use SLi or is it just something to have so you can say you have it? If anything you should check out the Mobo 101 Guide and take a look at some of the motherboards Praetor has rattled off.

Agreed, but I still wouldn't spend $230 of a $600-$700 budget on a mobo. Option 1 seems the better choice to me.

well thats sort of why i asked. I dont really know how to distribute the money because I have never built a computer. But I do want to have a motherboard that is fairly upgradeable in the future but still sort of in the price range. lets say you had 600-700 dolars to spend. how would you distribute the money? thanks a bunch!!!

$150 CPU
$120 Mobo
$130 RAM
$100 PSU
$150 GPU
$50 Case

These are just generalizations. It really depends on what parts have what prices at that moment.

Wow long time no see (at least for me). Glad to see you're back.

People always underestimate the value of a good case.

And overestimate the value of a crappy motherboard. If you've got a little over 700 you can get a Core2Duo system with not too bad of a setup, granted somewhere around 800-900 would be just enough for almost a low-mid end gaming system.

Granted this was thrown together fairly quickly and isn't necessarily perfect on parts or pricing, it's just a general view of what might work. As for the AM2, the Core2Duo's are probably the better cost to performance right now, dunno about the future though.

well somebody

suggested a core 2 duo setup a while back...im not sure who it was....but the only real difference between the setup i was lookin at and the one u suggested is that there will be a little bit longer wait (to get the money u know) but If I could keep the price around 700-800 il probably consider that.

but for now il probably just stick with amd until i have done more lookin around at the intel processors specifically the core2duo. thanks though
