its a possibility, when something starts to smoke it means something is getting way too hot, if the motherboard is broken and its new you may be able to get away with an RMA

as long as its within the warenty date.

i got away with an RMA on my psu. i just hope you dont run into future problems

And sorry I just have to ask this to make sure but did you place the motherboard standoffs? Forgetting to place these will result in a short.

Now how come I say this, everyone ignores it, then 20 posts later the guy with the problem exclaims that he forgot to place standoffs

And a female.

Its just a spacer - very common in electronics.

Its tiny.
