Hey guys, ok here it goes,

as i was searching the web one day my computer shut down, giving me a blue screen, but too fast for me to capture anything, then i tried to start and boot into windows and go into bios, but nothing, i reset teh battery (bios) and the pc stopped to boot at all, and it sparked... which indicates my mobo is fried, but do you think my power supply is dead too? should i take teh risk of changing teh mobo and start it to realize the psu is also dead?

thanks for the help

There is a way of shorting the PSU in order to start it without having any components hooked up to it.

1- ATX PSU
2- Wire Strippers (or teeth, depending on lazyness)
3- Short length of wire (or 2 if you do the optional step)

Its a 1 step process! Grab your psu, examine the atx connector itself, u'll notice a green wire with a black wire on either end of it. Take your length of wire, and use the wire strippers (or teeth) to strip a small section of cover off each end of the wire. Insert one bare end of this wire into the opening of the green lead on the atx connector, and the other end into any of the 2 black lead openings beside the green lead opening. This will jump the psu, and if it is plugged in (i suggest jumping first, then plugging it in), the psu will turn on (that is if its any good). Remember only run an unloaded psu for 2-3 seconds MAX!

If the fan starts spinning, then your psu is fine, if you get nothing, then you're psu is gone. Remember, that if your motherboard dies, other components may have fried with it, so when you get another board and psu (if required) it may not boot still.

Good luck

ok so i put in a new psu and everything seems to be working. i boot in a lnux bootable cd (kubuntu) and it worked. but when i plug the hdd back in and try to boot from hdd it goes back to teh same problem. so i thought teh hdd was dead, i plugged it into an external case and it works.....

so should i format the drive, plug it back into he pc and install windows on it now?
