MOBO upgrade question.

Why go though with all those problems of re-newing the m/b and o/s to install two pretty medicore cards in crossfire there not really that good at gaming etc?
you would be better off just getting say a single hd 4870, a 4890 or even a5850 for example which would outperform 2x 4550`s and save yourself alot of hassle

this.

ebay your 4550 and use the money you get from it towards and new card and a new power supply. A higher end card will draw more power, and as you say it is a Dell, they put the bare minimum for power supplies in their systems, so if you upgrade to a more power hungry graphics card, it will end up blowing, and most probably taking out other components with it.

For a good, cheap power supply, look here:

after thinking about it and checking prices, your right I think I will just upgrade to a single. Just I already have both 4550's. Also if I wanted to crossfire the hd4870 would that motherboard that I put the link up for work?

No, that motherboard only supports SLI (nvidia cards). I don't think there is an intel board that supports ATI and has your cpu socket.

I would go with this and after I list the parts Ill explain why.

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102864&cm_re=5770-_-14-102-864-_-Product

Or something Cheaper and still a good performer>

Power Supply:

That power Supply has a $25 mail in rebate, making it only $44.99. That's pretty cool. It will run either card I listed without a problem.

The first graphics card would be the best pick. It's future proof and performs extremely well. Ask anyone, it's price/performance ratio is well worth it.

The second GPU I listed is cheaper, just in case you were interested. It isn't as powerful, but will more than get the job done for most games.

have anymore questions, just ask :good:
