Just got a new higher internet connection meaning that we had to change the old modem.

to install it I had to plug it in to a computer with a usb cable, I plugged it in to my laptop and it installed but now the problem is that the internet only works on other computers if my laptop has been turned on and logged in to our internet provider.

do I have to plug it to all computers?

Looks like you are either using your laptop as a access point or your router will not log onto the ISP automaticly.

Lets start off what are you using? What router (Or modem)?

thanks for your reply.

im using a belkin router. connected to the "EPC2505 EURO-DOCSIS WB MODEM"

I can't really remember how i got it to work, i just remember plugging it in to the laptop and then it said it couldn't find the driver even though i had the cd put in.

then i remember following the internet providers tip and letting the router stand for an hour to set it self up and then it worked.

Got it. I don’t know about Belkin but I have used a few routers in the past that require you to enter your login details and ISPs details.

The EPC2505 EURO-DOCSIS WB modem requires you to manually activate the connection rather than a connection that is constantly on as in the newer ADSL routers. I had this problem with a BT Yahoo connection that did the exact same.

Go onto your routers config page usually 192.168.2.1 for the Belkins and look around that. What is the Belkins model number?
