i have an old modem and i use it for my xbox an laptop and i was wondering why i only get 11mbps on the laptop. i plug in an ethernet cable to the back of the modem for the xbox. i have at&t and the internet isnt supposed to be that fast, though i was wondering if i can make it faster. should i get a modem that goes to 54mbps or would it not make a difference. this is the modem i was thinking about getting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833124012

Your 11Mbit connection to the laptop is probably 3 times the speed of your internet. Nothing you do on your end will speed up your internet connection.

The bottle neck would be your internet connection itself(the service that is). Get a higher speed. A good broadband connection is so cheap these days.

Transfer files from one device to another instead of just on the net. You should get alot faster speeds. Mines around 9 megs a second between devices when I share out folders n such.
