Computer won't connect to INTERNET through a westell modem but when I connect a router to modem then hard wire the router to computer it connects. Why wont it work with just the modem? I have a new ZT computer with windows 7. I connected my old computer back to the modem and it works fine.
Thanks Joe

Did you reboot the system? The reason for this is because of different IP addresses you get assigned. Also, if you have a static ip address assigned you need to change it to manual so that you can get a correct ip address from the modem.

Sounds like you have a static ip address set. Go into your tcp/ip settings and make sure get IP address and dns servers automatically.

Then I'm not sure what else it could be. Thought for sure it was the static IP address set.

Same wire do you use for both the computer? if you use different wires for the computers, maybe is the wrong wire. just a thought.

Ive tried different wires and they all worked on the old cp thru the modem but not the new cp.The only way the new pc works is to hook up a router to the modem and run off the router

Hi everyone, I want to thank everyone for there help. I got into the modem and reset my pass word and now I can connect with the Modem. Thanks again Joe.

Usually you don't need a password to connect to a modem, are you sure its not actually a modem/router combo unit? What is the model number of the modem?

That's because the 2200 is also a router. So you must have changed the mode for the router part of it so you can attach a dedicated router.
