modified themes

if that modified theme takes more graphics processing power, then yes it does use up some resources. but if you have enough resources to spare, and are not using other programs that use a large amount of resources, then you wont notice a difference. you will only notice it when you are trying to run another program that is using a lot of power, and the other things running are keeping it from doing so.
 
using a uxtheme patch you can change the appearance of your system using no more resources than the blue and green appearance uses. Google it to find the patch and try customize.org or deviantart for themes
