Monitor Analog/Digital display situation

Greetings all,

......Seems my month for computer issues...I picked up a dell 1901FP lcd computer monitor that has dual inputs - vga(?) as well as a digital input and has two cords...(Running win xp, sp3, plenty of ram and hard drive space and processor speed).

.....I attempted to connect it to my dell's GX 280 OPTIPLEX graphics card and it does not function (no video displayed) even switching between both video modes on teh monitor....I get a "video test floating box" but, no real video...HOWEVER, when i connect it to my Toshiba laptop, it functions normally...

....This has the ability to switch between digital and "standard analog" inputs...My dell had another graphics card in it when i got it but, i since removed it years ago and besides, the pin configuration does not match up with the "digital" cable.....

....I went into setup of the computer and so no setting i could change....Yes, some will say it is the video card and tell me to get one compatible but, why then does it work with the laptop?.....Thanks in advance for replies.

If you have onboard and a dedicated video card in the dell then make sure you are using the dedicated card connection as there will be no signal coming from the onboard video.

......Thanks for the reply...

......I am using the same video card/port that my "standard" monitor was connected to (which was working) and, that integrated on-board port/card is working fine.....I got into the computer and even switched it to "auto" but, will switch it back in the morning.....

Again, update the chipset drivers. That should allow for compatiability with a different refresh rate.

....i solved this issue a few weeks ago.....was not a chipset driver issue. (you seem to be following ALL my recent posts).

Again care to share the resolution?

thats the point of a forum. Otherwise you should go elsewhere.
