Working fine in the morning, left for an english exam came back and it couldn't fire up. What was happening was the green light would come one, and then the purple BenQ thingy would appear for about a third of a second, then it would turn off again and do the same process over and over again.

My monitor is a BenQ FP737s
oh yeah also, for the short second that it trys to start up it kinda (hard to explain) but makes a high pitched beep or somthing. Its pretty quite and i could only hear it when i am quite close.

Do you think its the PSU...?
i really dont want to buy a new one...:(

That "beep" you heard could be the Post warning beep, this gives differing "beeps" when it has a problem and the type of beep gives you an indication as to where the fault lies. Without knowing what BIOS you have I can't be certain.

Reseat your memory and video card, also check connections.

nah its not the computer its the monitor that makes the sound. I disconneted it completly from the computer and the beep is more of a whine... and its much much quiter then the warning beep from a mobo.

I think the only way to ensure it's not the monitor would be to try another in your system or to try yours on someone else's.

I wouldn't have thought it's the PSU as that would have upset the motherboard components and a BIOS beep would have been heard.

mmm well i ment the PSU on the monitor cose i've disconnected it from the computer and plugged only the power cable into the wall and it does that whole process i said above. Like it does this completly serperate to the computer. I've tried it with my brothers computer and to no anvil.

I've also had a similar problem with my monitor. I'm currently using a different monitor on my computer so I know its not a problem with the computer. If I just have the power plugged into the monitor it will turn on for a second then switch off without making any. It's about 4 or so years old, a Benq FP71E 17". Is it likely shot?

Cheers
