monitor not showing windows

I am having an issue, I power up my pc and I can see the black screen with the hardware details then it shows the windows xp logo while its loading, normally it would get me into windows automatically and then I can start working however this time, during the windows logo loading screen, my screen goes black like it would if the pc was shutdown however its still on. Has anyone ever experienced something like this?

Are you 100% sure the computer is working? Could you perhaps stick a CD in there with some autostart program that'd make certain it's going? With little background info on the computer, I don't know if it would simply be the monitor/video set to the wrong resolution/Hz, drivers, bad video...etc
 
Well everything worked until I added a wireless card, however it has no since been removed. WHen my pc is off, the monitor light goes red when the pc goes on and boots the monitor light goes green and then displays the video...until i get to windows logo and then it blacks out and the monitor light goes red again. My pc is still on however not sure what its doing.
