monitor off

I have an acer aspire 3100, it was running good until this morning when I wanted to turn it on, but the monitor never did. The power led is on, as well the hard drive led. Does anyone knows if there is something I can do to troubleshoot it?

Acer laptops are renowned for this take out the battery plug it only into A/C power and it should turn on.
 
If you have a normal monitor (or someone else's if you don't), try connecting the laptop via VGA to figure out if the problem is the laptop graphics or the screen. Brightness turned up?
