my monitor keeps turning green and red flickers i have to smack it to make it go back to normal anyone know the problem:confused:

If that was a brand new one I would send it or take it back to where you got it from. Sounds like a loose contact or internal cold solder point. You should never have to strike any hardware to see it work correctly.

no its not new its about a year old already can it be fixed at any shop or place or anything

I assume this is being seen on an lcd model there. For crts the number of shops that still service crts has grown quite limited at this particular time with lcds more or less being the standard. You would have to ship an lcd to an authorized service center and pay just about what you would between shipping and service for a new one.

You've made sure the cable is tight on both ends correct... I've seen the same thing just from a loose cable. Back in highschool, once when I was bored in a computer class I learned how to wiggle the cable just right to get different colors :P.

Otherwise, it's gotta be something loose on the inside. If you're adventurous and handy with a soldering iron you could pop it open and look for yourself. Otherwise I would ask around and see if you know anyone that is... I imagine a repair place, if they would even take it in, would charge a ridiculous amount.

The only other thing that would see problems with colors would be the video drivers/software especially color management feature for the card in use there if not onboard. With one end of the cable recessed inside the casing on some monitors checking both ends requires opening the casing up.

The wiring to the vga socket will require a look by going inside anyways. If a crt bring it to a shop. Discharging caps is not for the unknowing. The amps stored in caps inside a crt will send you through the roof! zzzzzzap!
