Hi guys: i have ubuntu12.04LTS and i have Intel integrated hd VGA and
DVI outputs and I'd like to get on VGA monitor 1024x768 and on DVI output 1920x1080 resolutions at same time, is there anyway i can have separate resolution besides the Mirror display resolutions?thanks and have an Happy New Year.

yeah you can do that. Are you able to uncheck "mirror displays" option in the display configuration?

If you do not have the right driver installed for the GPU in your system you might need this tool

If this is a fresh install I might push you towards one of the newer releases of Ubuntu. 13.04/13.10 made some good upgrades to Unity IMO and are worth installing.

Thanks salvage;

Yes but it seems my Sony tv dvi input which is 30hz not 60hz like the monitor VGA,do not accept but the mirror option.

so... it does not accept putting the monitors in mirror? Or are you saying that you are unable to uncheck the mirror option? I am a bit unclear on how the configuration is setup in Ubuntu. Could you post a screenshot of what your display settings look like?

Thanks salvage; ok i can cofigure the displays either way with mirror or separate resolution, but when i put on the VGA led tv 1024x768 i can't see the desktop applets on the left and top and bottom taskbar all the controls, on the Sony display it's ok on 1920x1080 sinse it's always was this way, it cuts the edges so i never could control the pc from the Sony tv screen, that's a problem that can't be fix since these tvs were not supposed to be connected to PC's, i can live with that but i don't understand why i loose some of the controls and applets!
See pic.

you may ask why i want it with lower resolution on VGA because i want to get a graffic card with DVI hdm VGA and Svideo that would fit in my Linovo thinkCenter71e 3167 that has an
Integrated Graphics Adapter (Intel HD Graphics 2000)
to be able to send video Through Svideo to a RF converter to the other tvs in other rooms.

Do you suggest a card with (DVI hdm VGA and Svideo output)that fits in the lenovo pc see bellow specs ,thanks in advance

Slots 1.0 (total) / 0.0 (free) x DIMM 240-pin - Low-profile,
1.0 (total) / 2.0 (free) x CPU - Low-profile,

Alright I think I get what you are saying.

Try using the TV not in mirrored mode and try using 1280x720. That is would be the same as 720p. The TV should be able to display that correctly.

I think that might be functioning correctly. It looks like your Sony display is set as the primary display so that might be the only desktop that is going to have the unity launchers on the left. If you try setting the TV as the main display, you might get the unity launchers to work correctly on the desktop.

When you set the monitors to duplicate the display, do the unity launchers show up on the TV? If so what resolution is being mirrored?

to be honest that sounds more like a job for a dedicated media center PC rather than trying to split that off of your home\office PC.

I did see a few cards that had hdmi and S-Video, but they were more for capturing video signals. Not for adding displays. I really have no experience in that area, especially in Ubuntu. :(

Well i give up on the idea of trying to get rf signal out of my main hd set up

i have the Dell P4 with a vga and Svideo ati 9000 series card on other room so i connected from svideo to a RF converter and from there to coaxial cable to the rest of the house,i set vga to 1024x600 and the svideo 800x600
