Hi, Ive been noticing lately that my eyes get tires and i have a headache while watching my NEC CRT monitor for too long while working.

Is it a good idea to switch to the new flathead LCD monitors?
Where can i get the best deal on LCDs for a good brand. My budget is around $150-200

Thank you very much for your answers.

This is definately a CRT problem. Although you may not be able to see it, CRT monitors flicker at extremely fast speeds, and it is this that causes eye strain and headaches. I would recommend switching to an LCD as they dont flicker(and theyre so much cooler :D). Try www.newegg.com for cheap prices

You probably just have to up the refresh rate of your monitor. If you have it set around 50-60Hz you may be experiencing some sensitivity, however, after the point of 60Hz the human eyes can't perceive the "flicker". Up the refresh rate to around 85Hz and I bet your issues will clear up. I look at a monitor for 10-20 hours a day with no problems. Right click your desktop, Settings> Advanced> Monitor, and here you should see a place where you can increase the refresh rate. I would recommend putting it around 85-100Hz if possible.

hehe thats individual preference/sensitivity though, 30 mins at 75Hz and I'm seriously nauseous. :(

85Hz is the bare minimum for me in front of any CRT, but here at home I never go below 100Hz at 12x10. (120Hz when gaming at 10x76)

bb525 also make sure to use the latest drivers for your monitor (not the plug and play ones) in order to get the highest Hz your CRT can manage.

Hi thanks for your answers

my monitor is a NEC MultiSync FE700+ its a i think 18 or 17 inch monitor, for some reason when i go into control panel, display, i can only change the refresh rate to 75max. How do i change it higher?

when i unckeck the box below the refresh setting that let me see the refreshe rate that my monitor cannot display in. It show up refreshrate beyond 75, 85 100
but when i choose the 85 or the 100, the screen just go blank to sleep mode and after 5 seconds and it just return to 75.

also i set the resolution at 1152x864 right now the text seem small right now but i need it to fit all the icons in my desktop.

thanks

If you are talking about the ATI Control Panel then it should state right next to the box that it "Hides modes monitor cannot display". 75Hz is the maximum that your monitor can safely handle.

If you were to decrease your resolution, you would be able to increase the refresh rate.

"NEC MultiSync FE700+
16.1-inch viewable area, .25mm stripe pitch Diamondtron NF tube, up to 87-Hz refresh rate at 1024-by-768 resolution, Plug and Play ready"
