monitor trouble

so i just bought a new desktop 4 days ago and everything was great untill this afternoon....i turned the computer on and no screen(black).....i turned the monitor off and then back on and it turned on for about a second and a half and then black screen again......after turning it on and off a few times i can't get a different result and am really bumming right now......does this sound like monitor or pc problem????help
 
Even if someone here can figure out what is wrong, i would take it back to where ever you bought it from


back in the day one of our Emachine computer's had monitor problems, we had 5 monitors replaced in 8 months
 
so sorry i have been incredibly busy with other stuff.....so i have checked the monitor on another computer at work and it is in fact the monitor that is bad....that being said i will take the thing back to circuit city (pain because that is far and i bought it on line) and exchange it....i am just wondering if it is possible to hook my laptop up to my pc........i now this is a jong question so sorry in advance.......for your info i use win2000pro on my laptop (ya, i know.. that's why i bought the new system).......but the screen should be ok???

my understanding is graphicscard handles more of the picture than the screen
