Monitor Trouble

After installing vista my monitor acts strange

I go to boot up, i get past the boot screen, then it does a monitor self-test and hangs, if i power off and power on 2 times after that it does the monitor self test for 2 seconds then finishes ok

I have a Gateway diamondtron VX720.

Any suggestions?

is it ALWAYS exactly 2 times extra you have to reboot, or does it change, like sometimes 3 times, sometimes just 1 time etc...?
