Monitor turning on, but no desktop.

When I start my computer up and turn on the monitor, I can see my desktop flash up but the screen turns white. If I press the input button on the side of the monitor (gateway) it will sort of reset and I see the desktop for a second and it turns white again. If I do this for about 5 minutes, eventually my monitor will come up with the desktop. I'm guessing I need a new monitor, but wanted to make sure it couldn't be a video card problem. What does it sound like to you? TIA

Double check the connections. The only way to really find out is to try your monitor on another computer. Or the other way around, try another monitor on yours.

That sounds like the way to go, i would say it prob. isnt your gpu on account it does work after messing with it some..
