Monitoring Connection?

Okay, so my laptop and desktop keep dropping my wifi connection. I can't hook them to the modem directly for an extended period of time. So, what I want to do is find out if there is some program that will monitor if the internet connection dies. The most annoying part is it is more like a hiccup than anything else, but it is enough to drop me from games and stop downloads at times.

To summarize, I need a program that either monitors the internet connection whether through constant pings or something else.

EDIT: SO, I forgot to say, it happens on my mom's laptop. I'm not sure about the computer hooked to the modem though. It has once or twice, but it isn't really used much.

have you tried changing the wireless channell?

If you have cordless phones or other wireless electronics in your home, your computer might not be able to "hear" your router over the noise from the other wireless devices. To quiet the noise, avoid wireless electronics that use the 2.4GHz frequency. Instead, look for cordless phones that use the 5.8GHz or 900MHz frequencies.
