Hey All
Just got myself a new Dell Studio 17 laptop. Had nothing but problems since i got it. It came with vista but i put windows 7 on it, no problems with that though. Its the internet thata causing me all the problems. Everyone goes on as if wireless networking is the next best thing but im not convinced. Anywhere i go with my laptop i can get hooked up fine with a ethernet cable no problems. Wireless also works in most places apart from my home. Iv have recently switched to BT and have received a BT Homehub. I thought these were good as my mates all have them and have no problems but as soon as i get one its doesnt work! :(
My main PC which is hooked up via ethernet cable works with no problems, but when i try to connect to the homehub with the laptop all i get is problems. It sometimes connects but reguarly cuts me off and comes up with such messages as "Identifying Network" and "BTHomehub - Limited Access"
When i do finally get connected i have a full signal so the homehub but it is still very very very slow. I done a broadband speed test and it had a download speed of 70kbs. Although while trying to use BitTorrent i get about 5-50kbs.
Anyone got any ideas or anything i can do to fix it?

I don't use British Telecom....I don't think it is your laptop problem, probably be the problem with your ISP

You should call up your internet company and demand for them to fix your service. You are not getting the speed that you are paying for. If they give you any further trouble you should cancel the service and find another internet company. I had a similar problem with my service and I called up my internet provider and they fixed it then I started having issues down the line about 15 month down the line. I call them up and they gave me trouble so I canceled my service with them. I was a costumer with them for about two years and they just lost a costumer because they did not fix the issue. There is no reason to fight with your internet service provider if they give you a hard time in fixing your service. I am sure there are many internet providers.

Definitely should not be your first step. If you call up and complain, and it turns out that it's something with your setup or hardware that is causing the problem, they'll bill you for having to send a tech out when it's not their equipment.

My first guess is that it's a problem with the "BTHomeHub" they send you. I assume that this is just some sort of wireless router? Wireless router can develop problems, and it's possible that they just sent you a bad one. I would see if you could borrow one of your mate's and test it out to see if it works better, and if so then contact BT to get a replacement. Otherwise it's likely a problem with the wireless on your laptop.
