hi there, i have a very good computer at the moment, well it is an OKAY computer really:
2.0ghz p4 processor,
512mb ram
Nvida geforce fx 5200 256 mb
but i have a problem, wen i try to play games on the computer the games are slow, and i have no idea why. i closed all backround programs and i am jsut running the game, i easily ave the requirements for the game, i am much better than the recommended requirements for the game, yet the game is still very slow and laggy...is there anything i can do to make this not happen nemore preferably with out buy new components...thanks
Chooka

im trying to run two games either "battlefield 1942" or "juiced" both are games which should run smooth but dont, they work, but just not smoothly...

i did an "adaware scan" a "defrag" (that took all night) virus scans, deleted temp files, and sum stuff i never use, and also did a scand disk just for fun

Nvida geforce fx 5200 256 mb = problem (that's about the lowest gaming card available)

those games dont look too old, they are more than likely taxing your video card. turn down the settings and see if that helps. i know what it's like, i run a radeon 9200.

How good is the Radeon X300 SE compared to those two cards?

"The ATI RADEON X300 series represents the low end of ATI's PCI-Express lineup. Cards based on these chips are more likely to wind up in OEM-assembled PCI-Express-based systems than as retail products. However, unlike the 9200-series RADEON GPUs (which are the current low end of ATI's 9xxx series for AGP slots), the X300 and X300SE, like their more powerful siblings, are full DirectX 9 compatible GPUs."

"Although the X300 is the lowest-performing PCI-Express GPU made by ATI, it still rivals the RADEON 9600, and far outstrips the RADEON 9200 with full DirectX 9 support and faster clock speeds."

my guess is it rapes BOTH of them. :)

You lie, MX440, still being sold, Also for ones that are not being sol in stores rreadidly, but you can still easily get, check out my 16MB card....

Anyways, are you trying to play these games online(dnt know if you can) what kind of connection do you have? and check for spyware(either way aclly)

Try posting a HighJackThis log in the secuity section.

those cards are generations old...they aren't advertised as being able to play the newer games. the FX5200 is one of the cheapest cards that people still buy because they think it will play BF2 or Doom3 (and are mistaken.) PROBABLY because it comes with 256MB on certain models, and is way overpriced.

if someone buys an MX440 and expect to play newer games...then they're just hopeless lol.

where is the security secion ? :| i have an 8mb connection, no pb, i just wanna play it on my computer though no online connection. i dun a spyware check, i just cant think of what else could be the problem to this....problem...

i cant, the log file is too big to post, its about 19 000 characters....

are you serious?
can you take some screen shots? (Alt + Print Screen, Paste to Paint and save, upload here)

If you've got that much stuff on your machine...it certainly sounds like THAT could be a problem lol. Your HDD close to being filled up?

not really, its a 109gb hard drive and it has 20gb space remaining. how do i go about clearing all this stuff then?

Add/Remove Programs and see if there is anything you don't need. Delete Program Files you don't use. Defragment.

EDIT: i noticed earlier you posted you already have done this. sry

if a defrag "takes all night" that is a problem. i can dferag 120GB in a matter of minutes and my computer is substantially slower than yours on paper.

it still sounds like you've still got malware issues, especially with a massive hijackthis log like that. my log was 20 lines maybe less lol.

get "spybot search and destroy" from www.google.com and update and run that. if that turns up nothing...then i'll have to suggest a reformat just to clean out your HDD. i cant figure anything else would be bottlenecking your computer besides a very fragmented HDD.

i deleted one program and i think it free up enough space on here, was my logictech webcam. ill defrag later, its just that it takes a long time to do that usually....

do you need all the toolbars? accoona, yahoo, %Radio i seen. lots of Yahoo stuff...i have Yahoo messenger an i don't have all that "extra context" stuff.

Post this HiJackThis log in the computer Security section. someone will pinpoint the problem in no time i'm sure.

you dont want to get an X300 man, save up a little more, get an x700, or a 6600

Well The X300 came with the computer. I think I'll upgrade down the road but it can play battlefield 2 and farcry and such at pretty high settings at very good speeds, so it wont be anytime soon. How is the X300 compared to the Nvidia GeForce 6200?
