Most reliable DVD-R/+R (DVD-RW/+RW) brands...

Hey I am new to burning DVDs. I have ordered the NEC 3520A (OEM) and along with it a pack of ten 8X DVD-Rs from Imation. Are they good? I know they are made by a well known brand, yet what are they like compared to let's say, Verbatim or others. I have heard that Verbatim and Imation basically do not make the media and that companies such as Mitsubishi or Tayo Yuden make them instead. Shed some light on this matter for me please. Thanx

Hey

I bought my Verbatims and they are MMC :) Mitsubishi all the way! The Taiyo Yudens are excellent as well and some Verbatims are made by them.

So...

Would you guys agree that generally speaking, Verbatim, TDK, Maxell, MCC and Taiyo Yuden are the most trustworthy brands that market the media (I know the actual manufacturers often differ)? I use Verbatims and will probably stick with them. I could however get DVD+Rs cheaper from Taiyo Yuden here so maybe I will try those as well.

Maxell, to my knowledge doesnt make media and neither does TDK.

If you really wanna talk about DVD media you gotta talk about the maker, not the labler

decent media i used Datawrite Grey i found them of excellent quality and very fast and no coasters left over

svp.co.uk stocks them its around €8 for 25 8x disks

Ok

Ok I know Praetor :). I started mixing manufacturers with labelers. Haha. Anyway, I included Verbatim there because their DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs are produced either by MCC (Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation) or Taiyo Yuden. In that case, you have got yourself a safe product, because both companies are considered of high quality.

Ive tracked a couple Riteks and if i go back enough a random Ricoh. If it was simple MMC vs TY i wouldnt have made an issue of it but Ritek and Ricoh arent of that calibre :)

Yeah I guess you are right. I even heard that they switched to CMC for a short period but found that their image and reputation suffered. The DVD+Rs and DVD+RWs that I bought now from Verbatim are fortunately MCC :).
