Motherboard and chipset

Hello. I have an ECS C51GM-M motherboard (yeah, I know, ECS) in my new build. Could it hold my 8800GT back? It has an nforce4 chipset. Is that a fast enough chipset for 2gb 800mhz ddr2 ram, 8800GT, and an Athlon 64 X2 4600+ @ 2.4ghz? The processor could be holding it back too, but if the motherboard isn't performing like I need it to, it won't do any good to dump another cpu into the build.

If this board isn't fast enough, could someone give me any recommendations on a good chipset or recommend me a good budget board? I'd fork out more for a real nice board, but I'm kind of tight on cash these days! Thanks!

Edit: The x16 slot actually runs in x8, according to the manual. I don't know if that makes a real difference or not.

That link I gave was garbage, sorry:

That's my board. I read about another guy with almost the same ECS board as me. He was having some issues also, and one person said that the 8800GT doesn't always like the nf4 chipset.

Edit: Thanks fortyways. The manual said x8, but I downloaded GPU-Z and it says "Bus Interface PCI-E X16 @ X16, so I guess it is running in X16 mode. Could my chipset be hindering data transfer?

I'm sorry guys. I should have elaborated more on the computer. The one I'm talking about is the one in my sig. I built it a couple months ago and just put the 8800GT in around two or three weeks ago. I've tested it on Crysis and I think it can do better, judging by what other computers can do with that same card (PNY 8800GT 512mb). I can run 1024x768, 8x aa, medium settings. Another fellow with the same card, but with a 5000+ can run the same but with very high settings smoothly. Archangel was saying that the n410 chipset may not be able to transfer the amount of data needed for my components.

I don't mind upgrading, but I don't want to buy a new cpu and find that the motherboard is still holding the system back. Then again, I don't want to go through the trouble with buying and installing a new motherboard, if it's my cpu. I apologize for the confusion.

No one has any recommendations? Does anyone know what I should look for in a motherboard or what chipset is good? Thanks.

I have exactly the same specs as you except i have a 4400 and a 160 gb hd

did ur 8800gt fit well in your motherboard? were any any of the sata ports blocked

Hello! Yes, there was a SATA port blocked; the one that I was using. I had to move it to the second port. It went in ok, besides the sata port thing. It isn't being torqued or anything, now that I moved to another port. How well do you play Crysis (if you have tried)? Thanks!

nah i dont think 8600gts would take it. ill get the game once i have a 8800

and do u have the model where the fan is small or the one with a bigger one?

Hey, dwaynep. I have the version with the single-slot cooler (small fan). Well, do you mean the version with a large heatsink and fan, or the stock cooler? If by "small" you mean stock cooler, that's mine.
