Motherboard BIOS Question

Flashed the BIOS on my grandmothers PC today and all was fine, except afterwards the PCIE wifi adapter that had previously worked for over a year was no longer working.. in fact it wasn't showing up in device manager either.

I rebooted, entered the BIOS and when I looked at the MSI hardware layout tab, the PCIE slot indicated it was empty, when it still had the adapter installed.

Long story short, I turned off the PC, removed the adapter and rebooted, clean the registry junk via CCleaner and turned it off. I reinstalled the adpater, booted up and it was there and all was perfectly fine again.

My question is, why would this happen from doing a BIOS update? Never experienced this before.

Did you try reseating it before doing all the CCleaner stuff? Might have just needed to be reseated in order to be picked up by the BIOS again.

It can be due to the BIOS update altering some codes that affect the PCI-E bus, and will require a reseat for it to be recognized again. Kinda like before plug-n-play use to be a thing and you need to power down, insert whatever you need, and then start up again. That might still be a thing with BIOS updates that change certain codes.

I'm just throw some ideas around. Someone with more knowledge on this might have to chime in.

I did not, as it was working perfectly, until the BIOS flash. Didn't even physically move the tower..

Interesting, might be the case. In any event, it now works, more just trying to understand why for next time!
