Motherboard blown

My friend's lappy was 3 years old. She did have it on almost all day, work and pleasure. When the motherboard blew the repair man said nothing I can do with this so she bought another lappy (good spec, not expensive). My questions are: could the board have been replaced and how much? She is UK.

Yes, if you want to take apart the whole laptop, pull the motherboard, pull all the other components off it, get a new mobo and re-assemble. too much effort IMO

Another example of why not to let computers run all the time.

Probably got filled with dust and overheated something on the board.

Not worth replacing. Buy a new one, take out the existing hard disk and get the data transfer across.
