Hey all, I've got a Dimension E521 thats having some driver issues. My internet stopped working not to long ago so I quickly jumped the gun and re-installed my ethernet driver. I got the driver off of Dell.com under driver support and everything looked good untill I tried to browse the internet again. My AVG cant connect to the internet, I cant see this computer threw my other computer under Start/Network (vista computer) and when I dug a little deeper the only problem I can see is that My Current Proxy status is disabled and so is my LAN Proxy. Is this the problem? Where do I change it? I found this information using Everest. Very lost... I'm not sure why I lost internet in the first place but maybe someone can guide me in the right direction.

ps. When I type ipconfig in run/cmd it does say im connected to my router and that I'm in slot 192.168.1.103. I tried installing the newer internet explorer 8 and that didn't help.. however it said I got the updates while installing.. :| Very confused.. lol please help thanks,

hit windows+R and type in cmd... first type in ping www.google.com if you get a response to it, something is messed up with your browser or something... you will most likely have a no response... type in ipconfig /all ... you will get some data... first, type in ping localhost ... you should always get a response... if you dont, your adapter is disabled... next, ping (your default gateway *IE 192.168.1.1*) if you get a response, then you have connection to your router... go to IE and type in your default gateway in your address bar... try restarting it in there somewhere.... it could be tons of issues... this is what i do for a living... the easiest way to fix this problem, is to shut down your computer, unplug the power to the router and modem... leave them unplugged for about 1 minute... plug in the modem, wait 20 secs, then plug in the router... then turn on your pc... if that dosent fix it, call your company and make sure that they arnt experiencing any outages in the area... if they arnt, ask them if the can get a response to your modem... if they can, then its on your end...
