Are there any particular motherboard requirements for a 8800 gtx card, such an type of PCI slot, or number of slots etc etc?

If so, any (more budget end) recommendations?

thanks

As ^ said, you just need a PCI-E x16 slot, but make sure your case is wide enough and your power supply is powerful enough and has the right PCI-E connectors.

ok, thanks, i take it anything smaller than a fullsize atx case is out of the question then...?
What size power supply are we talkin- 600w-700w?

A mid-size ATX should work, but it depends on the case since some have drive bays in the way.

And I wouldnt go for anything under a 600W, but preferably a 650-750W for a single one. You also need to look at the amps, and see how much are on the +12V rails. I'd say go no lower then 35A on a single rail, or 40A combined. You could go lower, but I wouldnt risk saving a few bucks to do so.

Any 680i SLI board will be designed for it. A cheap one will start around $120. A good one will be closer to $300. But any socket 478 or socket 775 board with a PCIe slot will work.

I guess I'm a little biased towards Intel... Haven't tried to build an AMD machine yet
Well Intel is currently on top, so most people are going with Intel's for new builds. But not too long ago AMD was on top, so it's a battle back and forth between who has the best stuff. I personally go with whatever is better.

That makes sense. Three years ago I was a construction worker and I knew absolutely nothing about computers, so I've spent all my time learning about Intel

ok then thanks, i guess ill prob go for intel then as people seem to be saying that the core 2s are better than AMDs equiv atm
