Hi guys,
I'm looking at buying and AMD 64 3000+ but I don't have a motherboard for it. I 'm upgrading from a P4A. So can someone suggest a Mobo for me priced around 130-170.. I'm hoping for a nice motherboard, can overclock, etc. Thanks much..

Well there's really only one consideration at hand here: are you using the Socket754/939/940 cpu? (you'll want the 939 since the others have been phased out). I'd stay away from the nForce3Pro based boards since the HT is crippled at 75% performance but a board from either Asus or Abit should be perfectly fine :)

I was going to get a socket 754.. I'll look at the 939's. So are the Nforce 2 boards still good? I think I can pull out up to 200 dollars now

All the socket 939's are expensive.. 350 bucks being the cheapest.. The one I was looking at was 160 dollars.. Is it worth more than twice the cost for a amd 64 2800 + socket 754 and a amd 3500+ socket 939?

I found one for 350 bucks, i just dont wanna dishoutm another 200+ dollars if I don't have too.. Would a socket 754 2800+ run doom 3 well, ? Just processor wise.

Sure it would run Doom3 fine... hell my system runs it fine (if i upgraded the video card... right now im capped at 800x600 High or 1024x768 Medium)

Then I'll stick with that and if i need to O/C as time pass's I will. I mean it's should be easy to hit 3200 - 3400 off a 2800+, yeah? Oh yeah,t hanks for the quick response(s) praetor.

Hmm I found an Asus mobo I think should work
That's a nice board for the 754s but I would still suggest you do some looking around... you might as well get the more recent 939s if possible right? :) As I spec'd on that page I posted above, you can have an A64-3500 and a fancy A8V board for $460USD (dont forget you can always drop the CPU down to suit your budget) -- and $460 isnt that much more than what you've got planned (right?). Just a thought :)

It really depends on (1) your RAM, the better the RAM the better your OC potential and (2) your cooling :)

I can't find where you show where a amd 64 3500+ + mobo is for 460 dollars in your post, can you post it here.
