Motherboard fried

Just built new machine,took time and care to make sure everything was as it should be.Used a Foxconn case,PC Chips motherboard plus all new components(harddrive,processor etc).Also used new IDE cables and power cables.On starting up machine for the first time the main IDE connection on mboard smoked and started to melt, switched off within seconds.As I said I took time and care building to make sure mboard installed correct etc.On inspection now there is no signs of board been in contact with case as I double checked on installation anyway.
Mboard is now obviously kn***ered but can't understand it.
Any advice.............many thanks in advance
 
I'm guessing you use standoffs, but if you didn't take care to use only the standoffs that fit your mobo holes than you can start a short. Double check that.
 
Thanks for quick reply, but mboard was installed correct using standoffs and no sign of contact anywhere else
