Motherboard integrated sound card failure

sound card failed on my HP Pavillion Elite HPE series 400z. bought a Creative Soundblaster replacement sound card. Went in and deleted the old sound card stuff before installation, but when I went inside, I could not totally disconnect and remove the old sound card, it's got cables going to other places? I left it in since it was basically gone and deleted, but new card will not work. Since I had to leave in the old card, is it somehow messing up the new one?

I am an oldster that learned everything I know after 40, so go easy on my obvious lack of complete knowledge? thanks
 
Did you have another sound card to start with? It came with onboard sound. Realtec ALC8885. Its probably wires going to your sound ports on the case.
