if i need to get a new motherboard but am keeping every single other component that i have, will i still have to buy a fresh copy of windows??? will i have to reinstall windows??

i'm keeping the same harddrive, video card, memory, etc. my mobo is causing issues with using a sound card AND a video card (won't fit both)

it will be a different motherboard than the original.

if i have to buy a brand new copy of windows...what steps should i take before transferring everything to my new motherboard.

You would simply have to reinstall Windows, because the motherboard has a set of different drivers, chipset, onboard card, etc than another branded motherboard.

providing you don't have an oem license, you will have to reinstall windows and reactivate it. If its an OEM license then it was tied to the original motherboard. Is this a custom built pc or a store bought pc?

Since you bought the upgrade then its possible you can just do a repair install and ring up microsoft to reactivate.
