Motherboard Issues - Help Me!!

Ok, I know it's Christmas and all, but my new Christmas present(s) confuse me

I got up to the point in building a computer where you need to put all the wires in it...... The motherboard!! Mine is an ASUS A7N8X-X Sadly, I don't understand a thing, where do I connect the wires and which places?

Yes, it says all about the connections on the manual, and what they do/are used for, but on the wires in the case, they have these weird words on them, like:

VCC
PORt-
PORt+
G } All one wire
VCC
PORt-
PORt+
G

TPB+ } All one wire
GND

TPB- } All one wire

L /All on wire

RESET SW } One Wire (2 wires twizzled all in one)

Power LED+ /All one wire (2 wires twizzled all in one)

There are 9 wires all in total.

So, even though it's Christmas day and you may be having 'family time', if you can help me, please do!

By the way, the Hard Drive Case is called a "GameBomb". A link about the case:

lol, in the post above when I talk about the wires, you can see things like '}', '\' and '/'. It removes the spaces you put though so it all looks crumpled (if you know what I mean....)

Ok, I have found where to put 5 wires:

RESET SW } One Wire (2 wires twizzled all in one)

POWER SW } One wire ("" "" "")

SPEAKER } One Wire ("" "" "")

H.D.D LED } One Wire ("" "" "")

Power LED- \
Power LED+ /All one wire (2 wires twizzled all in one)

Are they all that is needed?

I should be idiotproof... find a wire, find a socket and trial and error .. if it takes too much effort, its the wrong wire.

Literally?

The one with lots of letters looks like it is the mobo, look on the mobo to attach it.-are these out of the PSU?

The MIC RLG looks like it is the microphone

Correct, i did have that motherboard at one point ... the nice thing about ASUS boards (and some others) is that ALL their boards are damn near wired the same ... i dunno how you're having so much trouble ... take the appropriate lead ... plug it in ... if it doesnt seem to work, plug it in the other direction. Rinse and repeat for each lead. (below, red is all you really need to worry about, blue is optional)

Thanks Praetor!!! Now I have to buy some new thermal paste as it got smudged when trying to put it on.....Artic Silver is what I'm going to get.

Have any helpful hints that I should know when applying Artic silver? Because I looked at the Artic Silver guidlines part and it said near the start of the instructions that you should NOT put any paste on the CPU. Then, further down the page, I read that it says "now put some on the corner of the CPU". I don't understand... lol!

I saw a picture on the net where they had four pieces of selatape to make a square in the middle. Then, they put the thermal paste on and spread it with a credit card and then peeled off the selatape. That left them with a nice square, which was also as thin as selatape. Can/Should I do this? Is their an easier way? Also, what are the steps that you need to do to apply the compund?

I know it's a lot of questions, but it shouldn't be hard for you to answer them

Well if you did the red ones then why are you doing the HDD LED?

Screw the instructions .... too confusing Just "apply a thin coat to the chip" -- that is, the stuff that looks like a chip (as opposed to the PCB which doesnt need the thermal paste)

Can/Should I do this? Is their an easier way?

Well if you think you need that to get a nice thin coat then by all means. Its not that hard just to spread it by finger or by ruler tho.

Also, what are the steps that you need to do to apply the compund?

1. Open tube/jar
2. Sqrirt/squeeze/baste cpu
3. Wipe and smear

Praetor (or as other people say 'Preator' lol ),

amazing ! Thanks so much! I applied the compund to the HSF with selatape on it to make a square. Then spread it over and made it level with the selatape. Peeled off selatape, and voila! A nice clean cut, thin, square. I hate that shop though, they only had silicone and no Arctic Silver
.... oh well!
