motherboard lan problems

hi there .. I recently decided to upgrade to an athlon 64 and an msi motherboard K8T NEO K8T800... a feature of this motherboard is
gigabit LAN ...I got it all running sweet but I could not connect to
the internet...I have done this many times on my present system which has LAN and using the CD supplied by my ISP it is easy..On the new system it just would not work . I tried to replicate all the settings but I must have overlooked something.. Is there anyone who could suggest why I was unable to get the lAN working and is it anything to do with it being gigabit lan.. I would welcome any suggestions that I can try.. I have a feeling its something to do with the settings but i tried everything and failed ..

1. I assume you're having problems getting the lan to work PERIOD rather than to work at gigabit speeds?
2. Naturally you've tried latests drivers etc ... and its not something simple like the cable
