Motherboard Not Reading Graphics Card

Hey,

I just started getting into the fun and enjoyment of building gaming computers. I am new to this scene and just got my first computer put together. The only problem I have been getting is that my motherboard (MSI Computer Corp. Motherboard Micro ATX DDR3 1333 LGA 1150 Motherboards B85M-G43) does not read my graphics card (Sapphire Radeon R9 270X 2GB GDDR5 DVI-I/DVI-D/HDMI/DP Dual-X with Boost and OC Version PCI-Express Graphics Card 11217-01-20G). I have a power supply of 1200 Watts so the amount of power is not an issue for me. I installed the drivers as well. I have also tried putting the graphics card into each PCI_E# and it still will not read.Any suggestions as to why my motherboard will not read my card?

Did you attach the pci express power connectors to the video card? Does the card fan run?

Thanks for the reply.
Yes the fans work and yes the cable is in. If i plug in one cable, the computer will turn on and start. If i plug in both pci express power cables to the graphics card, then the computer will not put out a video output signal. But the fan runs just fine.
