I am in the market for a new motherboard due to the recent epic failure (again) of my P5N-D. I was mainly looking at the P45 series boards, particularly the Asus Maximus 2 Formula. Is there a large performance difference between that board and a cheaper one with the same chipset such as the MSI P45 Neo2-FR? I'm willing to spend the extra money if I can see at least an average of a 5% performance increase.

Also, is it possible to run 800Mhz ram OC'd to 1050Mhz on a 1066Mhz board? What about the stock 800Mhz ram?
 
Immediate performance aside, which board offers the BEST overclocking?

Right now I am (was) at 1050mhz ram and 3.6 ghz cpu. Could the right mobo allow me to go higher?
