Motherboard - part missing?

Hi,

i bought a second hand mobo from a guy on Ebay, I was about to build a computer tonight but when I came to fit the heatsink I noticed that there is just two holes (factory drilled, either side of the CPU) in the mobo and no sign of that black base section that the heatsinke usually sits in. This meaning I cant fit a heatsink, the board is a Gigabyte but I dont even know the complete model reference as it was not the board i purchased but a replacement for one which needed a BIOS update to work with my CPU.

Do you think there has been a part left of the board and is it something I can buy seperate or should I contact the seller and ask him to sort it out, its been over 2 weeks now since I first ordered and if its just a few pounds to sort out then I dont mind getting the part myself.

I bet the HS base was removed(perhaps even broken then removed :P) If I were you, I'd just look into another cooler. The one I got for my last system actually came with that base. I never quite understood why, seeing as the stock one was identical, but for your case, that would be a replacement and possibly a better cooler.

you should be able to pruchase a decent 3rd party cooler that will have the necessary backplate parts to hold the cooler :)

the first one should be fine because it mentions using screws to secure it however thats not a guarantee... i would check on the manufacturer's website to check the contents list
