Motherboard problem

Well i think its my motherboard anyway. Whats happening is when i turn on my computer it gets all the way to my log in screen, but after about 1 min i get a blue screen for a split second and it restarts. Also 6 lights turn on on my motherboard between my ram slots. The lights are red red yellow yellow green green from top to bottom. Is this a motherboard or a ram problem?

Some info on my setup: I have a gigabyte motherboard, my ram is g.skill i have 2 sticks each are 2g. If you need to know anything else just ask.

The only reason i thought it was my motherboard was because the first time it happened i took out one of my sticks or ram and only the right slot on my motherboard worked. If i put the stick of ram in the left slot it would restart but not if i put it in the right slot. However it only worked for 2 days and now neither slot works.

Update:Okay i just took out one of my dad's sticks of ram from his comp and tried it in mine. I got the same problem.

My setup has works for the last 2 years no problem. Also i should state that i know close to nothing about computers

It's not a BSOD, just a quick blue screen?

The link you posted isn't working. It could possibly be that your motherboard needs the proper alignment for your ram sticks.

It can also be a faulty power supply. But please inform us of your motherboard type.

My motherboard: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3R LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Dynamic Energy Saver Ultra Durable II Intel Motherboard

The BSOD stays blue right?? Ya its just a extremely quick blue screen, so fast i cant even make out one word on it, and then it restarts.

Also i am able to get it to boot to safe mode, not sure if this helps or not. :)

Hi mrscherer!

That tells me that your hardware is fine. Sounds like some process that is starting when Windows starts up is causing the problem.

Here's what I would do: In safe mode, go to Start-->Run and type in msconfig. On the Startup tab, click Disable All. Then, on the Services tab check hide all Microsoft services and then click Disable All then click OK and let it restart and see if will boot into normal mode then.

If so, then we know some process was causing your box to reboot. You can run msconfig, and start re-enabling processes. I wouldn't re-enable anything that you don't need, as it will just be idiling in the background and eating up memory. If you re-enable one and it starts acting up again, then you've found the culprit.

If not, then you may have some other issues. Please try it first and post back here.

Good luck!

Well im able to log in now :) thank you very much. Ill let ya know if i run into anymore problems.

Thanks again
