Motherboard problems in Vista

Hi, im new to this forum so will start by saying.....hi.

I just upgraded to vista, but have quite an old motherboard. Im pretty sure it is this that is causing lots of Blue screens with 'MUP_FILE_SYSTEM' or something (its a very quick death) written on them.

so, i was wondering if anyone had any tips on wether chaging to a vista compatible motherboard would actually solve the problem or not?

I was planning on reverting to xp whilst upgrading as i dont know how vista handles a motherboard switch, and cant find any info on it, but i have read a few guides explaining how to do it with xp. So is there a way i can revert back to xp without formatting again?

And also, it was an OEM vista uprgade, so will i have any windows registration or activation issues when i put the new baord in? (assuming i do).

Thanks for your help!

Andy

Hi, Welcome to Computer Forum, make sure you check out the rules :)

I think that is an IRQ problem, I would try switching some of the devices you haev in your PCI slots into other slots and see if you get it still then.

As far as I know, or have heard ( I could be wrong ) You can only install an OEM version once, I'm not 100% on this though.

yeah kornowski your right if you change the motherboard it will cout it as a new computer and give you 3 days to register I bieleve

I done the same thing - all you need to do is call Microsoft, explain the situation and they will give you a full activation code. They are very helpful and almost seem like they are used to people calling with the same issue.

yeah ring microsoft and tell them you were flashing the bios and the electric went out so you have replaced the mobo it worked for me.
