Motherboard sound not working

Hey, I got a new mobo for christmas, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813135023

The problem is, I cannot get the sound on the BACK panel to work. I plug in the front audio connector to the mobo and the sound works by plugging the speakers into the front jack. But, when I plug them into the rear jack, there is no sound.

I have installed drivers, configured drivers, but nothing has worked. Does anyone have any ideas?

Have you looked in the bios settings to see if the onboard sound is enabled? That would be the first thing to look at there. If it is then you have two possible things to consider. The wrong drivers were installed or the audio chips on the board are defective. The second item would require exchanging or simply returning the board for refund. Check the bios settings.

Ive tried a bunch of different drivers, but none have worked. The weird thing is, the line in jack on the back works and so does the mic jack. Just not the line out. And yes, I have it in the green port.

Did it install the Sound Manager program with the drivers, if it did check your Speaker Configuration and Jack Sensing

Hmmm...when I first built my computer I was having some sound issues, but it was solved when I installed the drivers..but if your line in and mic ports are working, then that's not the problem.

It sounds like your speaker out port is damaged.

While a bad jack or solder to the board is likely due to the other functions working a mismatched set of drivers can catch you offguard at times since the ones used for the mic and line in remain the same between different boards while the model chip for output sees the change there. A look in the device manager to see if there are any items in the Sound, Video, and Game Controllers section or "other devices" with yellow marks next to them would tell right off if the drivers were at fault or simply were never made active by Windows.

You didn't say, but have you tried unplugging your front header and then try your rear jacks? Page 24 of your manual has a note (indicated by a little hand) that may be of interest. It specifically addresses the MIC but may also affect other functionality. Worth a shot.

Try removing the front header and REPLACE THE JUMPERS :P If you don't, you certinally won't get sound. That was a problem I had with my build. I used the wrong front connector. Everything worked fine, but I couldn't hear anything(front or rear connectors) until I switched plugs.

Reversed wires on the small pins? That will cause a number of... "problems"! :o like crossing front to rear speakers? aw crap! :( Just be sure to unplug the ones for sound and nothing else or ?
