Mountain laptops, yes or no?

Hello,

Ive been with mac for 4 years but i need a replacement since my battery has swollen and destroyed my cpu and trackpad.

New mac models have soldered on ram and very expensive flash storage. This makes upgrading impossible, which is BS when you pay 3200 dollars for your laptop.

I ****ING HATE APPLE FOR THAT

Still i would love to stick with apple but its getting out of hand....

I am a DJ/Producer, I run traktor scratch pro (dj soft) and ableton.
Especially for dj'ing I can't have things lagging or crashing.

So a nice guy on Facebook recommended me the brand "mountain", this is their flagship model.

They are expensive but the specs and future possibilities look interesting.

Someone know this brand or series?

Also I'm leery because as far as I can find there is no mobile CPU with the number i7 4790. That's a desktop level CPU. They have the wrong info on their site.

They advertise "Now using desktop processors!", also the battery and power brick are enormous, but you'd still get abysmal battery runtime at load..

Yeah if they're pulling stuff like this you should avoid them. That has trouble written all over it.

Ok thanks.
The option of having 2tb of storage and a ssd for the OS got my intrest i think.

So what's the best laptop for audio production? That msi looks ok.

And what do you guys think about the current 15" macbook pro's?

I have 16gig ram in my current macbook, if the new laptop only has 8gig i can exchange it.

At least 3 years would be great.

If you're comfortable paying $900 more for a laptop that's worse, spec wise, then yes the 15" MBPs will be fine (though I do think new models are coming out soon).

However if you want to save a ton of money, still get an amazing screen that's better then even the "Retina" screens, get great performance, and get solid build quality while still remaining somewhat slim, this is what I recommend: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834317540&FM=1

Make sure to get the 4K model if you order from another site.

The macbook pro is a beautiful thing :)
Also all the pro dj's and audio production schools work with apple so it feels a bit wrong to let it go.

Thanks, that lenovo laptop looks nice. Do you own this model?

All the younger people at schools everywhere use Macbooks. It's just a trendy thing. If you like them as a computer, go for it, but I don't recommend keeping one and spending the extra hundreds of dollars just because everybody else has one.

No, I do not own the model, but I have used it in a store. Lenovo's are very solid laptops.

Yeah kids...

But for some reason, if money is not a problem, the whole pro audio sector uses MacBooks. That can't be only because of aesthetics?

My experience with mbp's is really good until 2 months ago then I got very angry...

Ok the lenovo is an option thanks.

I don't know why, but video/picture/audio editors tend to use Macs over anything else. They like to make a ton if excuses as to why, but really I just think they bought them when they were younger and just stuck with them. Also, a very few amount if programs only work with OS X. Check and make sure tour software supports Windows.

BTW, I have nothing against Macs but their price. I own an older model, and while it's a nice computer with great build quality, I've used high end Windows computers that have a just as nice build, though not as pretty. Their OS has a few advatanges over Windows, though it also has disadvantages over Windows so I choose Windows, but other people may choose OS X.
