Mouse all jerky

Right, hes a puzzle for ya. What would make your mouse go slowly (i.e. lag) and the whole of the system not. Graphics will still run smoothly and audio is in constant stream. CPU % monitor shows only a mere 27% useage.

Well, thats my problem, whether playing a game or simply browsing the web it suddenly goes jerky (the mouse that is), the entire system still flows as normal. It's annoing in games because i can t turn round fast enough to shoot back before they kill me. In normal windows apps its just plain annoying because its happening.

Any ideas, i heard something a while back about a buffer on the PS/2 bus that holds info about data from the mouse tc.... could it be this buffer is becoming overloaded or something... Please help, im at a loss of what to do. My mouse is just a standard 5 button optical PS/2 mouse.

System specs are in the sig. Thanks

Have you tried using another mouse on that computer?
if it works fine with a different mouse then your mouse is the problem

Have you tried re-instaliing the mouse drivers? If you can, get a ps2 to usb adapter and try using the mouse on the usb port.

2 of them were USB mice and the rest were PS/2. What do you mean mouse drivers, there are no drivers for mice..... are there. Or are they preloaded by win xp?? Where can i get these drivers from

Make sure the optic lens is cleaned, and the surface is clean. If it's cordless, use a wire. Try dropping the resolution to 640x480.

heya

This is a strange problem. I know that this would happen to me in conjunction with hardware monitoring software that I had on my old mobo. It would have the same symptoms. I would not suspect drivers to be the problem. It could be some strange power problemt to the mouse. Good luck. This is a weird problem.

I got a new mouse mat, "optimized for optical mice" and it hasnt helped. I cleaned the lens and that hasnt helped, ive reset my bios incase it was something i inadvertently changed. I really dont know what else to do, i did a system restore to like a few weeks ago when it was all fine but the problem is still here. Resolution is only 1024, not like its really stressing it or anything. i shall try 800 but i dont think it will help

Heya

Well I still think that it's a power problem for the USB ports. Since it does it on all mice that you have tried, it's something that interferes with information being passed from the mouse to the mobo and so forth. I also think that because everything else is working fast during the problem, you are not looking at the processor. However, try reinstalling display drivers as they may be causing the problem.

Is whats your using the mouse on shiney? If so get a dark(black) and flat(not flat as in smooth, flat as in the color like bland and not shiney at all)

This is if its a laser mouse, If its shiney, or over plastic/glass someitmtes the rays wont bounce back correctly and it makes your mouse screwey. I had this problem and that solved it. a Black sheet of contrucetion paper!(sweet mouse pad huh?)
