Mouse and Keyboard Don't Work

Hey guys at Computer Fourm, my first post. Today, when I was using my desktop PC (Acer Aspire running Vista), the mouse suddenly froze. I thought the whole computer had frozen so I restarted, only to find that I couldn't even log in, as the cursor was completely still in the middle of the screen. The arrow keys didn't work either.

After going into recovery mode, I realised that the keyboard seemed to be working fine, until the computer booted and showed the login screen. The laser on my mouse was also shining during system recovery, but turned off as soon as the computer was booted. I tried safe mode, with no luck. The laser on my mouse shines when I click, so it is not an issue with usb connection, but rater with drivers (I believe).

Is there any possible way to install drivers via usb? I am currently on a laptop with working internet. Thanks guys, not being able to use my computer is kind of annoying :(

Thanks in advance guys, even a tiny hint will help a long way.

Have you tried another mouse? It's more likely that the mouse has gone belly up than the drivers were suddenly corrupted. I always keep an old mouse and keyboard around (mostly for those annoying coffee mug accidents).

Hey Nanobyte, I tried another wired mouse with a USB to PS/2 adapter, still no luck. The keyboard always works when in boot menu, but as soon as the Vista logo pops up, The mouse and keyboard just freeze. Would a wireless keyboard and mouse make any difference? Would you be able to use a USB gaming controller or joystick?

I don't think wireless or other devices are going to help. If you could get in using Safe Mode you could do a System Restore but that does not seem to be an option. My PCs are arranged to skip login so I have no experience with issues there nor doing a major system recovery. Hopefully someone with the required knowledge will help from this point on.
