mouse disconnects/reconnects randomly

Quick summary:
*Mouse acts like it's been unplugged, then plugged back in
*tried system restore
*a few other people have had this issue, no solutions I could find
*motherboard is asus P5Q PRO, mouse is logitech G9

Hey, Lately I've been experiencing a weird problem (mainly while gaming). It seems that my mouse is shutting off, then turning back on again, exactly as if I were to unplug it then plug it back in. I've read a few people all having this same issue, but so far no solutions...

It's like windows can't see the mouse for random 20 second intervals, then all of a sudden it sees it again.

I've never had problems with this before... My motherboard is an asus P5Q pro, mouse is logitech G9. I'm fairly good with computers, but this one has me confused.

I think it might be a problem with a recent windows update... My keyboard or any other USB devices don't have any problems. This just started happening to me a few days ago, and I remember a windows update happening a few days ago.

I tried to do a system restore to a date that I know it was working, but the problem is still happening. This might not help either way though since I don't think all updates are able to be undone (only select updates can be rolled back).

I tried looking for a new chipset from intel but the only one I could find is older than the one I currently have...

Any questions/ideas?
 
I think it may be a hardware problem now, today the mouse will just stop working for a split second then start working again (it wont disconnect and reconnect, it is less of a delay).

I already exchanged this mouse once because the last one had a bad scroll wheel, but the amount I game I don't doubt this thing has just worn itself out. Hopefully they will give another replacement, otherwise I'll have to get a new one.

In the mean time I'll have to use the old one since the scroll wheel problem is far less annoying than not being able to use the entire mouse. This should also tell me if it is a mouse problem, or an OS problem.
