Old Logitech rechargeable MX1000 Laser mouse and the gold is wearing off the contacts on the mouse. It getting harder and harder to get a good contact to recharge the mouse. Sometimes resorting to spit to close the connection. Any suggestions?

First try cleaning the contact points on the mouse and the cradle with with an eraser and/or rubbing alcohol. Look them over and if they seem 'corroded' try scratching them to get shined up again.

Another issue I've heard over time is that the internal battery mount of the mouse becomes loose and there's a 'slam' method to get the battery to re-seat itself, or you can manual take the mouse apart and re-seat it yourself.

And of course, just sell your old one and get a new one . :P

Not a corrosion problem, the contacts are gold plated over a plastic base and the plating has worn off exposing the non-conductive plastic. If I moisten the contacts and get it JUST RIGHT in the charger it will charge.

hmmm if you are poor and can't grab a new one.... maybe a used one

Not poor, just cheap!

not much else to do for the electronics. Rubbing alcohol and que swab.
Unless the pins are bent to far back inside and not making properly.

If the plating is worn off and actually missing, then the contacts are totally shot. You'd have to find another mouse and replace the contacts. Failing that, replace the mouse.
